With what what was often described as a highly limited acting range, it was widely speculated that she got the job through her father's influence. Tori Spelling claimed to have undergone an audition for the role under an assumed name. After the series went off the air, Spelling worked mostly in various independent films (often receiving praise for her performances) including Trick and The House of Yes.
In July 2004, Tori married Armenian-American actor Charlie Shanian in a lavish $1 million wedding. In September 2005 the couple announced their separation after only 14 months of marriage. In December 2005, it was reported that she is engaged to actor Dean McDermott. McDermott recently filed for divorce from his wife of twelve years. They have one child together. Tori and McDermott met on the of the T.V. movie "Mind Over Murder".
